Kundanbagh Haunted House Real Story: What Police Actually Found.
To understand the story beyond the myths, it is essential to look at the tragic 2002 event and why it became an urban legend in Hyderabad.
The Human Story Behind the Legend
In reality, the story is a tragedy involving mental health and isolation.
- The Family: A woman named Jayaprada and her two adult daughters lived in a house in the posh Kundanbagh Colony. They were known to be eccentric and mostly kept to themselves.
- The 2002 Incident: In September 2002, a thief broke into the house and discovered three highly decomposed bodies. Terrified, he fled but was later caught for another crime and confessed what he had seen to the police.
- The Investigation: Forensic reports suggested the women had been dead for approximately three to six months. The cause of death was determined to be suicide by consuming poison.
Why the "Ghost" Rumors Started
The legend was born from the "glitches" reported by neighbors following the discovery:
- The "Living Dead": Neighbors claimed to have seen the women performing odd rituals—like walking on the balcony with candles or hanging bottles (allegedly filled with blood) at the entrance—long after the forensic time of death.
- No Odor: Despite the bodies decomposing for months, no one in the high-end neighborhood reported a foul smell. This led to wild theories about occult practices masking the scent.
- The Candlelit House: Residents reported seeing lights flickering and shadows moving in the house during the months the women were supposedly already dead.
The House Today (2026)
As of 2026, the house remains a major point of interest for "ghost hunters" and influencers, but it is not a tourist spot.
- Strict Surveillance: The house is under heavy police surveillance to prevent trespassing. The Panjagutta police have regularly arrested people for trying to break in.
- Police Banners: To stop the hysteria, authorities have previously put up banners explicitly stating the house is not haunted and that legal action will be taken against anyone spreading rumors or trespassing.
- Privacy: The area is a quiet residential zone near VIP quarters. Residents are frustrated by the constant influx of curious visitors and have requested that digital mentions and Google locations for the "haunted house" be removed.
Warning: Do not attempt to visit the house. It is private property, and the local police actively prosecute trespassers.
